Scaling Production through Precision: Large CMM and Digital Data Integration for Machine Automation

The Challenge

As production volumes increased, the customer's existing measurement practices and efficiency could no longer meet demand. The primary technical challenges included:

• Large Workpieces: Components ranging from 1600mm to 2400mm (X, Y) and 800mm (Z).

• High Precision Requirements: Critical need for high accuracy in flatness and positioning measurements for base plate features.

• Efficiency Bottlenecks: Manual measurement and data entry processes were unable to cope with the required throughput.

The Solution

INSIZE provided a turnkey measurement proposal covering the entire production process. The solution included:

● Large Bridge CMM-PM Series: Specifically selected to manage large-scale components with high precision.   

● In-Process Measurement System: Implementation of the 7901 mobile workbench equipped with various digital gauges.

● Wireless Data Management: The 7315 series wireless receivers work in conjunction with laptops and tablets, as well as data acquisition software, to enable the automatic, paperless collection and recording of measurement data. The system can assess the validity of measurement data in real time and issue alerts, prompting operators to verify the results and correct any discrepancies.  

● Technical Support: The INSIZE team performed multiple site visits to optimize the CMM layout within limited space and evaluated parts to ensure the correct measurement tools were assigned to specific tasks.

The Result

The implementation of the integrated system led to significant improvements in operational confidence and efficiency:

• Enhanced Efficiency: Digitalized data entry replaced outdated manual practices, enabling faster detection during the production process.

• Scalability: The new system supports higher production volumes, allowing the customer to pursue more aggressive business expansion.
